Bolton was born in England but moved to Australia when he was young. He started lifting weights at age 13 and competed in powerlifting meets until he retired from competition due to injury in 2010.
His first contest was the Arnold Classic where he won a gold medal. He then went on to win two more Arnold Classic competitions before retiring again due to injuries.
He had a short stint competing in bodybuilding contests, winning one title before retiring again due to injuries. He hasn’t competed since 2014.
His training philosophy is based around progressive overload. He believes that it is better to lift heavy weights over and over than to do very light weight exercises repeatedly with no rest between sets.
This type of training method is called “loading”. His main lifts are the bench press, military press, and squats.
Three of his training methods are as follows:
-Datysha Reservoir : This involves doing the deadlift, alternating with the bench press and military press without setting the bar down. After your set of deadlifts, you do bench presses and then military presses.
You continue this for as many “rounds” as you can. This is one of his most brutal training methods.
-Ten sets of ten: This is simple. You pick a weight that you can lift for ten repetitions.
You do ten repetitions, set the weight down and then rest before doing ten more repetitions. You continue this until you have done a total of 100 repetitions.
-The 3D method: This involves doing three different exercises back to back with no rest in between. Each exercise trains your body in three different ways so you can continue this cycle until your entire body has been hit from all possible angles.
For example: You can do push-ups, sit-ups and squats back to back without rest in between to train your entire body. You can also do ab work, pull-ups and burpess back to back to train your entire body another way.
He is currently training for his next powerlifting meet in September. He hopes to break the all-time world records in the squat, deadlift and total poundage lifted.
