Bryan Tran was born in 1977 in San Diego County California. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Computer Science. After graduation he worked at Microsoft for five years before joining JumpStart Media where he has been working ever since.
He is currently employed as a software developer and teaches computer science courses at several colleges across the country including UC Berkeley, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Indiana Tech and others.
His other interests include photography, reading, music and video games. His favorite movies are “The Matrix” (1999), “Inception” (2010) and “Gravity” (2013).
His favorite bands are Radiohead, Muse and Nine Inch Nails.
Tran’s hobbies include playing guitar, listening to music and spending time with his wife Kelly. They have two children: a son named Jack and a daughter named Grace.
Awards and Recognition
Tran won the 2012 Adobe Creative Cloud Design Award for his work on JumpStart Media’s book, “Jump Start Your Business.” He received the 2013 Google Developer Awards’ Best Mobile App for JumpStart Media’s book, “How To Get More Clients And Sell More Products”.
He was recognized as one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in Technology by Inc. Magazine in 2014.
Tran was awarded the 2015 Computer Science Educator Award by the Asian American Engineers and Scientists of California for his work as a computer science professor.
Tran is an avid speaker and regularly attends Cal-IT, EdTech, and other technology related events.
