Derek Tresize is a Canadian actor, singer and songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. He was born in 1980. His first film role was in the indie horror movie “The Devil’s Rejects” (2009). After that he appeared in several independent films such as “Passion Play”, “A Good Day To Die Hard”, “Lone Survivor” and many others.
He is best known for his roles in the television series “Mr. Robot” (2015) and “Stranger Things”. He starred in the short film “Boys Don’t Cry” (2016), which won him a Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance Film Festival 2016.
In 2017 he released his third album, entitled “Trouble Will Find Me”. It debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 chart. It received positive reviews from critics and fans alike.
On June 3rd 2018, it was announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. On July 10th 2018, he died at the age of 35.
Early Life Edit
Born in 1980 in Toronto, Canada, Derek Tresize grew up mostly in the city and attended high school there. At some point during his youth he began playing guitar and singing songs. He later joined a band called “The Tresizes” with his siblings.
In 2008 he released his first album, called “Songs For The Last Generation”, which consisted of 12 songs.
He began dating actress Jane Fonda in 2011. He later appeared in the movie “This is 40” (2012), which was directed by her. She gave him a small role in the movie, cast as the manager of the building Jane’s character lives in.
Derek later appeared in the TV series “Black Box” (2014), but was cut out of the show after the first season due to poor ratings. He later said that “the network did not think anyone would know who I was”, and that his role had been “essentially a self-promotion opportunity”. He also said that he felt his career was damaged because of it, and said it was a sign that “Hollywood is ruled by money”.
He later appeared in the movies “The Devil’s Rejects” (2009), “Passion Play” (2012), “A Good Day To Die Hard” (2013), “Lone Survivor” (2013), and many others.
He got his big break when he played the role of Officer Jim Pembroke in the TV series “Mr. Robot” (2015). He won critical acclaim for his role, and was nominated for several awards. He later said he “treasures” the role, and that he is “grateful” to have gotten the chance to portray him.
In 2016 he appeared in the movie “The Lost Airplane”, a parody of “Lost”, which was a parody of “Airplane!” by itself. In it, he played the role of Tom Hanks’s character from the original movie, Captain John Hap, as Captain John Haps.
In 2016 he played the role of Greg Hinks in the movie “Boys Don’t Cry”. The movie won Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance Film Festival that year. He also performed the song “AB Negative” for the movie’s soundtrack.
He later went on to appear in numerous films and TV shows, including the 2017 crime drama “My Name Is Lenny”, the 2018 horror film “Shadow Man” and the second season of “Stranger Things”.
Personal Life Edit
Derek Tresize currently lives in Los Angeles, California. His ancestry is Italian on his father’s side and English on his mother’s side.
In 2013 he was one of several celebrities whose private information was leaked online following the iCloud leak. The leaks revealed his cell phone number, selfies, and other information.
Derek later claimed to have been sexually abused as a child by an uncle, who was ultimately sent to prison. He did not name the uncle, but said he “was a police officer”.
A self-professed libertarian, he has long been an advocate for gun rights. He has also spoken out against Hollywood’s liberal political bias, once claiming that it threatens the future of the entertainment industry.
