The best way to get rid of hunger is to eat something satisfying. A good example of such thing are fruits and vegetables. They provide us with all kinds of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other beneficial substances.
You might not have heard about them before because they are usually overlooked by most people. However, these things really do matter when it comes to your health.
Fruits and vegetables contain lots of water which makes them very filling. This means that you will feel full after eating a fruit or vegetable. That’s why they are so popular among children and pregnant women who want to avoid gaining weight during pregnancy.
Fruits and vegetables also contain many phytonutrients, which protect against certain diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes mellitus and obesity in general.
There are some foods that contain no calories at all. These include fat, protein and carbohydrates. Fatty foods are those that come from animal sources like meat, fish and eggs.
Protein foods include beans, nuts, seeds and tofu. Carbohydrates come from plants like potatoes, rice and corn (in their whole form). All of these are necessary for our bodies because they are used to make up cell membranes, hormones, enzymes and other things that keep us alive.
The most well-known class of nutrients are the macronutrients. They are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. All three of these are essential to our survival and good health.
Vitamins and minerals are also considered important as well. These are all things that the body needs in smaller quantities. They promote growth and health.
A well-balanced diet consists of all of the food groups. Many people think that it is OK to not eat each group every day. This is untrue.
Our bodies need all of these food groups and they need them everyday.
It has come to my attention that many people around here do not know how to eat properly. I am a health professional and it is my duty to teach you what you need to know about nutrition. This information may be a little upsetting for some of you who are eating the wrong things, but trust me it is for your own good.
The food pyramid that I am going to show you here will explain to you what you need to eat on a daily basis. We will begin at the bottom. The base of the pyramid consists of carbohydrates.
This is bread, cereal, rice, pasta, fruits and vegetables. These are the foods that should be consumed the most. One should eat five to eleven servings of this food group per day.
The next group is made up of protein foods like meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and milk. Adults should have five to seven servings of this food group per day.
The next to the last group is fats, oils, and sweets. This means things like butter, margarine, salad dressings and mayonnaise. One to two servings of this food group are recommended for adults each day.
Finally at the top of the pyramid is a small group of foods called sugars and sweets. These include table sugar, jelly, candy, cookies and cake. These should only be eaten sparingly.
Even though these are not big in calories they can be very harmful to your teeth. It is recommended that most people have only one serving of this food group per day.
