Also, do not take any drugs during the fast period; they may cause unpleasant side effects such as headaches, nausea and vomiting.

You need to avoid alcohol completely. Alcohol causes dehydration and can lead to liver damage. Drinking too much alcohol could even result in death.

It is better to avoid caffeine altogether since it can increase hunger and decrease metabolism. Caffeine can cause insomnia, headache, heart palpitations, nervousness and other negative symptoms.

Avoiding all these things is the best way to maintain good health during intermittent fasting.

We all want to achieve our goals as quickly as possible and as easily as possible.

Who has time to waste on things that do not produce results?

Most of us believe if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. This is what I thought when I heard about an “alternative healer” claiming that he could cure my cancer. Turned out he was right, he could cure it….but it took three years, a lot of money, and all my savings.

Who would have thought a “quack” could heal someone?

Turns out all he did was gave my weakened body some rest, feed it nutritious food and detoxified it using natural herbs. Within three years I was cured of my cancer, but I had lost my home, my money, and even my family due to the fact that they thought I was being fed a bunch of lies.

Intermittent fasting is another one of these quick fix theories that some people believe in. It states that you can get all the benefits of caloric restriction and weight loss by simply cutting down your eating hours and intermittent fasting. Some proponents of this theory suggest that humans were designed to go without food for extended periods of time and that our bodies are adapted to hunting cycles of going several days without food, then feasting once we hunted down something.

If this were the case then you would think that most tribespeople, hunter-gatherers and aboriginal people would be thin. This is not the case. The Kitavans, for example, are able to get all their nutrients from their diet yet they remain thin.

Hunter-gatherers also go through cycles of feast and famine due to their hunting patterns. Furthermore, there are some people in this day and age who rarely eat bread and still remain thin.

Quick fixes do not work. A slow, steady change in your diet and lifestyle may take a bit longer to achieve its goals but it will definitely be worth it in the long term. Quick fixes never last and you will most likely gain all the weight back (and then some!) once you return to your old habits.

Do yourself a favor and stick with the proven methods of achieving weight loss .

If you are serious about losing weight, then start by eliminating soda from your diet. Cut out things like soda, sweets, and other foods that are high in sugar (or any food with high fructose corn syrup). Instead of eating two or three meals a day, eat 5 or 6 smaller meals that are low in fat but nutritious. This helps your metabolism to stay up and running throughout the day.

Combine these changes with a good exercise program and you will be well on your way to a healthier new you!

It is amazing how many people do not realize how much activity they actually use in their daily lives. When you get right down to it, a lot of the so-called “sit-down” jobs require a lot more movement than one might think. However, there is no reason that you should not be able to get even more movement during your daily routine.

Take the Stairs…Always!

take the stairs at work. Even better, ask your boss if you can have your office moved to one that is located on a different floor so that you will actually have to take the stairs to get there!

Use the Bike Paths!

If you have easy access to a bike path or even just a road with no cars on it, use it! Walk, jog or bike to where you need to go. The path behind my apartment complex is four miles long and totally safe.

I use it every day to go to the store or to friends’ houses.

Go Grocery Shopping with a Bag in Hand

Every time you need to go get something from the store, whether it is the corner market or the super Wal-Mart, keep a bag in your hand. Every piece of fruit or veggie you put in the cart, throw into the bag.
