Helena Wu

Helena Wu was born in 1975 in New York City. She grew up with her parents, brother and sister. Her family lived in a very poor neighborhood. She attended public school until she graduated from high school at age 16. At that time she moved out of home and started working as a waitress at a restaurant called “The Blue Goose”. After some years of work, she got married to someone named Luke who worked at the same restaurant where they both were employed. They had two children together.

In 2009, she became a full-time actress and began appearing in films such as “The Great Gatsby”, “Annie Hall” and other movies. She made her film debut in 2010 in the movie “Love & Basketball”. She then appeared in several television shows including “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, “24” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”.

She has been nominated for numerous awards, including three Emmy Awards (one win), one Golden Globe Award (two wins) and two Screen Actors Guild Awards (three nominations). She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2013 for her role in the movie “Birdman”.

Helena died in 2026 of lung cancer. She was 41 years old.
