CrossFit makes me a better doctor
I am not going to lie, I have been a fan of CrossFit since it was first introduced to my attention. However, I never thought that one day I would become its official trainer. But here we are!
My name is Matt. My wife’s name is Lauren and our son’s names are Oliver and Harper (he just turned two). We live in Kansas City Missouri with our dog Jasper and our cat Muffin.
Our family started training together back in 2011 when I had just graduated from medical school. Since then, we’ve trained over 100 people at various gyms around town.
Our most recent clientele?
Doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs all looking to get in shape and stay healthy.
We believe that everyone deserves to be fit so they can enjoy life to the fullest. And if that means getting into shape through exercise rather than drugs or surgery, then so be it!
Why do I love CrossFit so much?
Because it gives people like us a chance to give back to society. We don’t make any money off of this, but we’re doing what we love and helping others out. That’s why I’m writing this post today.
How CrossFit Makes Me A Better Doctor: Why You Should Be Doing It Too!
1) It helps me lose weight!
When I was in medical school, I started to put on the pounds. It happens to a lot of people during that time because of stress and irregular eating habits.
My wife is a photographer, and she needed to lose some weight for an upcoming wedding. Since I didn’t want to be seen in public with her if she looked like a lollipop, I decided to join her at CrossFit Lifestyle. It worked wonders! Now I’ve lost 20 pounds and she’s lost 15.
If you want to get a six pack like me, all you have to do is start training with us!
2) It helps me with balance!
Ever since I was little, I was told that I walked like a Neanderthal. Practically walked into things. Always falling down.
As a doctor, you don’t want someone like that looking after you, do you?
The folks at CrossFit Lifestyle saw that I needed help with my balance. They started by giving me a solid balance routine to do a few times a week. Now I can stand on one leg with eyes closed for over a minute!
They also gave me a soft ball to sit and lie on to improve my balance. If doctors had this stuff, we could prevent a lot more injuries!
3) It helps me with endurance!
If you’ve ever went to the doctor for a routine checkup, you know that they always ask you if you smoke or drink. You’ll be happy to know that I don’t do either!
But if I had, I would have definitely had to cut back since I wanted to start running again. While we were in college, my wife and I used to go on 5kruns together every weekend.
Now that we’re in shape, we want to start doing them again! However, I couldn’t run for more than 2 minutes without having to stop to catch my breath. My wife, being a photographer and not a doctor, can run for over an hour.
I’ve improved a lot since then, and I now can run a solid 20 minutes without stopping.
4) It helps me mentally!
Doctors these days have a lot on their plate. From bad paperwork to more bad paperwork, it gets to you after a while. That’s why I started practicing martial arts. It helped me stay focused and centered.
I’ve noticed that the same holds true for CrossFit. Despite lifting heavy things and running long distances, I’m always calm and collected afterwards. I don’t know if it’s because of endorphins or what, but I’ll take it!
5) It helps me get a six pack!
The folks at CrossFit Lifestyle saw that I needed help with my abs. They gave me a few ab routines to do every week. After a month, I saw noticeable improvement! Now I can finally take my shirt off without embarrassment at the beach. If you want abs like me, come join us at CrossFit Lifestyle today!
6) It helps me eat right!
So I’m sure you heard all about paleo and the dangers of grains and sugars. Let me tell you, the stuff they say is true. I used to eat a lot of that stuff before, and I felt like crap after eating it. The worst was when I used to have cheat meals on Sundays with pancakes, waffles, and bacon.
When I went paleo, all my stomach problems went away! Now I can have meat, vegetables, fruits, and nuts whenever I want.
If you want to feel light as a feather, come join CrossFit Lifestyle today!
Isn’t paleo great?
7) It helps me learn what I’m good at!
So you might be wondering, what can CrossFit really do for me?
I mean it sounds great and all, but I don’t want to overdo it. You’ll be happy to know that CrossFit can help you in more ways than you think!
As a doctor, I have to test my patients to see what their skills are. For example, I have to make a person stand on one leg and see how long they can balance before their leg trembles.
If you want to try it yourself, go ahead and stand on one leg for a few seconds. Then, try to do it with your eyes closed.
See? That was pretty difficult wasn’t it?
It’s all about control! In CrossFit, we improve control over our bodies in every way possible!
But there’s more! They also make us do crazy lifts that test our strength and endurance.
For example, how many squats do you think you can do?
I bet you can’t do as many as me! I did 135 pounds many times! Now, I’m not bragging. Your body just probably isn’t ready for the awesomeness that is CrossFit. That’s okay though! I’ll be here to help you improve your score whenever you’re ready.
You ready to join the CrossFit Lifestyle revolution?
You will be in a month!
