Instagram Stories are a new feature introduced by Instagram. They have been designed to make it easier for users to share short videos or photos with their friends. These stories can be viewed by anyone with an account, but only those who follow certain accounts will see them.
The main reason why Instagram Stories were created was so that celebrities could promote themselves without having to spend money on advertising campaigns. But now that they’ve become popular enough, there’s a growing concern among some people over how these stories might affect your mental health.
As far as we know, there isn’t any research yet to prove whether or not Instagram Stories are harmful to our mental well being. However, there are several theories that suggest that they may cause depression.
One theory suggests that when someone sees too much of themselves on social media, it makes them feel self-conscious and anxious. This causes them to stop doing things like going out or interacting with others.
This then leads to feelings of sadness and loneliness which can lead to other negative emotions such as anxiety and even panic attacks.
Another theory is that people may excessively compare themselves to others. When you see a certain type of photo or video online, it creates an expectation in your mind on how other people should look.
For example, when you look at a certain type of picture and you feel like you don’t look good enough in comparison to the people in the picture, this causes feelings of low self-esteem and depression.
Yet another theory suggests that the more time you spend on social media, the more likely you are to feel depressed.
Even if the accounts that you follow don’t talk about things like feeling lonely or sad, just knowing that such feelings are out there can make you start to feel this way yourself. It’s sort of like walking into a really bright room when you’ve been in a dark room for a long time.
At first, it’s quite refreshing. But after a while, it can start to give you a headache and make you feel like you want to retreat back into that dark room.
Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure. If Instagram Stories are causing people to feel like this, then there’s going to be some changes made soon.
So if you’re feeling sad for no apparent reason or even suffering from anxiety or panic attacks, then maybe you should consider deactivating your account.

How Those Instagram #fit Selfies May Unmask Depression
You know those awesome people that take pictures of their food so they can upload them to social media?
Yeah, well, that’s not this article. We’re talking about those folks that take pictures of themselves in order to show off their new physique or maybe just how pumped they are after a particularly grueling workout.
It seems pretty harmless. And really, it can be.
However, if this is something that you find yourself obsessively doing, then there might be a deeper meaning behind your actions. And that meaning is likely depression. (Sigh) Here we go again…
So, how many selfies is too many? And what’s the big deal anyway?
Let’s find out.
The first thing you should know is that there really isn’t any research on how many times someone should post selfies on social media. But that doesn’t stop us from speculating.
If you’re only doing it once every couple of months or so, then there probably isn’t a problem. But if this has become a daily or even weekly thing, then that is probably considered to be excessive.
And like we said, the frequency of your selfies doesn’t really matter all that much. The real issue here is why you’re doing it in the first place.
Now there are lots of reasons why someone might take a selfie. It makes sense to take one when you’re at a concert or out on the town with friends.
Or maybe you’re at a party. It’s perfectly fine to want to remember these things.
But what about the times when you’re home and by yourself?
Or perhaps you’re out and about and there are no friends or other people around. In fact, you didn’t even take any pictures at all but you took a selfie instead.
Well, the most obvious answer is that you think you’re really cute or handsome. And that’s great. We’re sure you’d get lots of selfie requests if you posted your pics on Tinder or some other dating app. But that’s not what we’re talking about here.
For some people, selfies are an indication that someone has a lack of self-esteem. It’s a way to seek validation from others by seeing how many Likes and comments you can get on your photos.
And when you’re taking a picture of yourself and there’s no one around to see, it’s a sign that you may have some deeper issues.
But this isn’t just about seeking attention. It can lead to bigger problems down the road.
For example, you may start to feel like if you don’t get the Likes and accolades that you feel you deserve, then your self-worth suffers as a result.
It may seem silly, but remember those Instagram #fit selfies have been linked to an increase in depression, body image issues, and eating disorders. So if you’re posting pics of your six-pack or pictures of your meals then you should know that it’s not just vain, it can be dangerous as well.
If you think that you’re the exception and you would never let social media get to you, then think again. Everyone is susceptible to at least some level of depression if the right buttons are pushed.
And when you’re taking a picture of yourself day after day, it’s only a matter of time before it starts getting to you.
But the good news is that just as clothes make the man, they can also unmake him too. So if you think that you could possibly have been suffering from selfie poisoning then we suggest you lay off the pics for a little while.
And that’s not the only trick to curing selfie addiction. It also involves surrounding yourself with people who aren’t selfie crazy as well.
You need to get out in the real world and talk to others in person (without taking a picture first of course). Go somewhere where taking selfies isn’t even a thing at all. If you can’t do that, then find something or someone else to take an interest in.
Selfies can be fun and they’re a great way to express yourself. But just like anything in life, there’s always a limit.
When you start to abuse a good thing, then you ruin not only the experience but yourself in the process as well. So if you think you’ve been taking too many selfies lately, then it’s time to stop now before it gets out of hand.
Oh and while you’re at it, please stop taking mirror selfies too. Nobody cares what you look like.
