Of course, most people would prefer to spend their time playing games, socializing, watching TV or any of the myriad of other fun things to do. To get the body you want, you may have to change some things in your life. But, if you really want to, you can find the time.
The first step is a mental one. You need to decide that being healthy is a priority. Once you’re decided on that, it’s just a matter of planning. If exercise is your thing, plan for it. Set aside a certain time every week that you absolutely will go to the gym or go running or do whatever it is you like to do.
Make that time sacred. Put it in your phone or on your calendar. If other things come up, reschedule everything else or push them back. Your exercise time is more important. This will also help you from making excuses since you’ve already informed everyone that you won’t be available at that time.
If healthy eating is more your thing, make a similar plan. Shop for your food ahead of time and make sure you only buy things that are good for you. Plan your meals ahead of time as well. Water running – If you like jogging on land, try taking it to the pool. Many gyms have a shallow end, so it’s just deep enough to run in.
Water skiing – It’s not just for the mountains anymore!
Surfing – Not many pools with great waves, but you could get a floaty drinks cooler and pretend. Be careful if there’s a drain close to the edge of the pool though.
2. Take the Stairs
Lots of people take the elevator every day and don’t give it a second thought. If you take five flights of stairs a day, that’s about ten stories. That’s more than enough to keep your heart healthy and feel great. Stairs are also a great place to do some extra stretching at the top and bottom, giving you even more benefits.
3. Park Farther Away
This one only takes a few seconds longer, but can make a big difference in your life. Most people drive right into a parking spot at the mall or grocery store. Walking even a short distance every day can drastically improve your health. Even if you just park a little farther away and walk to the store quickly, you’ll be giving yourself an easy boost to your heart.
4. Clean with Housework
Doing some light housework can help you stay fit. Vacuuming, mopping, and washing dishes all need to be done anyway, so you might as well get some benefits from it. If you feel like doing a bit more, you can try dusting and cleaning windows. You might not get as much exercise from these tasks, but they still count as exercise.
Dancing is a great way to unwind and have fun. It’s also really good exercise if you do it for at least thirty minutes. You don’t need a partner, CD, or special equipment to dance. All you really need is music, which you can turn on almost anywhere. Turn on the radio next time you do the dishes.

Not including the walking you’ll do to feed and care for it, having a pet can be great exercise. Dogs need to be walked daily. Other pets such as cats, birds, and lizards require less maintenance, but you might find yourself carrying around their litter box or birdcage while you clean your house. Also, if you have an inside pet, you’ll often find yourself vacuuming and sweeping up hairs and dander.
12. Have a Hobby
Whether it’s taking dancing lessons, playing an instrument, or building models, hobbies are a lot of fun and can be good exercise too. Even watching your favorite TV show counts as exercise if you’re really getting into it!
13. Be a Door to Door Salesman
It might sound like hard work, but sales jobs can actually get you moving. Whether you’re selling magazines, flowers, or insurance, you’ll be on the go all day long.
14. Take a Class at the Adult Learning Center
If you’re looking for something specific such as computer skills or cooking classes, your local adult learning center may have what you want. You can also find basic classes in things like writing and public speaking there as well. Some communities even offer exercise classes through these centers.
15. Go Dancing
Put on your favorite music and just dance around the house. If you have more than one floor, try skipping between floors. Also, remember to perform a dance for that special someone in your life every once in awhile.
16. Go to the Arcade
Before arcades became all but extinct, a great way for kids to get exercise was by spending their allowance in an arcade. All that walking and pushing of buttons really burned off some calories.
17. Cook Something

Thanks to sites like Craigslist, you can give free things away for free or next to nothing, all you have to do is pay for shipping. From furniture to clothing to electronics, if you’re looking for something specific, you can probably find it on Craigslist.
20. Get a Second Job
If you need extra money, but don’t want to deal with the hassle of a part-time job, getting a second full-time job might be a good solution. The added bonus is you’ll earn extra money to save or spend on your lifestyle expenses.
21. Get Your Own Cell Phone Plan
Cell phone plans can be very expensive for anyone who uses a lot of data, text, and minutes. By getting your own plan, you can save hundreds of dollars a year. All you need to do then is buy a cheap phone at Best Buy and use it with your new plan.
22. Take Advantage of Sales
Instead of buying something at full priced, watch for it to go on sale and buy it then. You might have to be patient, but for big-ticket items like electronics or even groceries, it’s usually worth the wait.
