Matt Beecroft

Matt Beecroft is a Seattle based artist. His work focuses on the intersection between technology and human experience. He uses digital media to explore questions of identity, perception, memory, privacy and other related topics. His work explores how technology affects our lives through the lens of art and design.

His works have been exhibited internationally including at MoMA PS1 (NY), Whitney Biennial (WV) and Guggenheim Bilbao (ES).

He was named one of the top 20 artists under 40 by Artnet Magazine in 2010 and 2011. He won the 2012 International Design Museum’s Young Artist Award for Best Work in Visual Communication. He received the 2013 MFA Student Exhibition Prize from the School of Visual Arts. He has worked with major corporations such as Microsoft, Google, Intel, Samsung and Amazon.

In 2012 he was selected as one of the “10 young designers to watch” by Design Observer magazine. In 2013 he was selected as one of the “20 emerging talents to follow” by Artforum. In 2014 he was chosen as one of the “25 rising stars to watch” by Dazed Digital and in 2015 he was named one of the “30 up-and-coming creatives you need to see”.

He has lectured and taught at the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston) and many others.

Matt is also a practicing Emergency Physician at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

He received his B.A. in Economics and International Relations from Cornell University, his M.S. in Technology and Policy from the MIT Media Lab and his M.F.A in Design and Technology from the School of Visual Arts.

He is also a regular columnist for Fast Company magazine, writing about design, technology and innovation.

As a practicing emergency physician, his work explores how technology affects our lives through the lens of art and design. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
