Phil Tuckers Career
In the late 1940’s, Phil Tucker was born in New York City. His father died when he was young, so his mother raised him and his younger brother.
When he turned six years old, she took him back to her parents’ home in California where they lived until he graduated from high school at age seventeen. At this time Tucker moved with his family to Los Angeles where he attended the University of Southern California (USC). During his college years, he worked as a screenwriter and produced several short films. After graduating from USC, Tucker went into film production full time. He wrote and directed two feature length movies: “The Big Sleep” (1946) and “Boys Town” (1950), both of which were critically acclaimed.
Tucker then began writing television scripts for various networks including NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and the WB. He created and starred in several TV series including “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”, “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Houdini” and others.
He also wrote and directed several episodes of such shows as “Mystery Science Theater 3000”. Tucker also wrote numerous non-TV projects including a novel, a screenplay, a play, and many other works. He is most popularly known today for writing the story and screenplay for “Gone With The Wind”.
Several years ago, Tucker retired from the entertainment industry and moved to a small town in New Mexico where he still lives with his wife. He spends much of his time writing novels and says he has no plans to leave the entertainment industry anytime soon.
