Product Review: Sunfood Organic Cacao Nibs
Sunfood Organic Cacao Nibs (SOCN) is a brand name of the company SunFood International Ltd., which was founded in 2007 by Mr.
Zhang Jiaxin, a Chinese businessman. SOCN is one of the top brands in China, with its products being sold at over 400 stores nationwide and online through Alibaba Group Holding Limited’s Taobao Marketplace website. SOCN products are made from 100% natural ingredients and contain no artificial colors or flavors. They have been certified organic by the U.K.’s Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The product description says: “Organic cocoa nibs, made from beans grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.”
In the past few years, there has been a surge in interest in organic foods worldwide due to concerns about environmental issues and animal welfare concerns. According to the USDA , the United States produces about 80 percent of all food crops, but only uses about 20 percent of them.
The rest goes into animal feed, plastics and other consumer goods. The rest is often found in the form of pesticides and even ends up in waterways and other places it shouldn’t be.
The main ingredient in these cacao nibs is the raw bean, which is sliced into pieces before being processed. The processing, as with most food, involves a lot of different chemicals, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a detergent used in manufacturing.
Cacao nibs are mostly used as an ingredient in recipes as opposed to a daily consumption staple.
These cacao nibs are often praised for being organic and carries the United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency’s approval. They have also been received well by critics and have an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon.
These nibs are quite expensive compared to other options in the market, such as organic cocoa powder or unprocessed cacao beans bought from a bulk food supplier, but are pretty affordable compared to many other products on the market. It is also beneficial to buy in bulk due to the relatively long expiry date of five years.
These organic cacao nibs have a 4.3 out of 5-star rating on Amazon, with 81% of reviewers giving it a full five stars.
Most reviewers liked the taste and the texture of these nibs specifically when added to porridge or smoothies.
Larissa G. said, “I have only recently started using Cacao nibs rather than just chocolate and I have to say I am impressed.
They have a very intense chocolate taste which you would expect from any good cocoa but there is also a slightly nutty taste which I like.”Although most people who have bought this product seem to like it, some have said that they don’t really taste much of a difference between this and regular cacao powder. Some people have also complained of receiving products that were not sealed well, and that it was very difficult to get the lid off.
Overall, Sunfood’s Organic Cacao Nibs are slightly more expensive than some other options on the market, but they are organic and have a much longer shelf life. This product has been rated very highly and seems to be a good purchase.
