What is Parkour?

Parkour is a style of self-defense and physical training that involves running, jumping, climbing, sliding and other acrobatic movements in order to overcome obstacles such as walls or even other people.

The term “parkour” comes from the French word parcours (parade), which means “run through.”

It was first introduced into the world by two Frenchmen, André Dubois and Jean Baptiste Le Corbusier in Paris in the 1920’s. They were inspired by their experiences during World War I when they saw soldiers being forced to run through trenches while firing at each other. This experience made them think that if these men could move around quickly and efficiently like soldiers, then so could everyone else.

In the 1970’s, parkour became popular in France and other European countries due to its ability to make people feel free and confident despite the chaos of war.

Why Parkour?

Practice Makes Perfect

Most people start by learning the basics of how to move their bodies. If you have no experience in sports or other physical activities, then it’s likely that you’ll struggle with certain things at first.

For example, it might be difficult for you to turn over or pull yourself up when you’re laying down on your back. This is because you’re not used to controlling your body in such a way.

However, with enough practice, you’ll eventually gain more skill and ability. You’ll quickly learn how to roll over from your back, get up, and jump into the air with the greatest of ease.

It’s important that you have an area that is free from obstructions and danger. No traffic, no cliffs over a hundred feet high, nothing like that. Find a nice open space where you can do your thing without getting yourself (or anyone else) hurt.
