The Keto Diet: Hungarian Goulash

Ketogenic diet is one of the most popular diets among the public. Most people are interested in learning how it works and what its benefits are. Some people even want to try it out themselves because they think that it will help them lose weight or improve their health. However, there are some drawbacks associated with ketogenic diet. One drawback is that many people don’t like the taste of keto food and prefer other types of foods instead. Another drawback is that ketogenic diet doesn’t provide any nutritional value.

Hungary is a country where traditional cuisine is very popular. Many people have been eating meat and fish for centuries. People tend to eat different kinds of meats depending on the season and region. For example, people from Hungary love their pork ribs (borsalata) during summer months while people from Poland love their bacon (pomorża).

There are also people from various parts of Europe who love their liver (kielbasa) and people from Russia who love their salami (salami).

Another type of food which is very popular in Hungary is Hungarian goulash. It’s a dish made with meat, vegetables, potatoes and sometimes other ingredients such as onions, garlic and sour cream.

You may wonder why someone would choose to make a ketogenic diet?

Well, there are some people who love this food so much that they want to eat it all the time. Other people eat this diet because they want to improve their performance at sports and need extra energy. In order to do that, these people need to make sure that their bodies are getting enough nutrients but without any extra carbohydrates. If you fall into one of these categories then this diet might be the right choice for you and keto goulash can become your favorite dish.

What Is Keto Goulash?

The word “goulash” is used to describe a type of soup or stew which consists of meat, herbs, vegetables and seasonings. In order to be classified as goulash, the dish should also contain paprika (sweet or hot). There are a few places in the world where goulash is famous such as Hungary. It’s so famous that it has become the national dish of this country. All over the world there are people who have heard of it and tried it at least once in their lives.

Many types of goulash exist all over the world. This is because ingredients used to make the dish differ from region to region. However, Hungarian goulash is a little bit different than most types of goulash. There are two main reasons for that.

First of all, this type of goulash never contains any vegetables. Second of all, it must contain at least half of the ingredients in the form of meat.

What Is Keto Goulash Made Of?

As we have already mentioned, there are a few differences between the types of goulash existing worldwide. One of these differences is the content. Most types of goulash are made using various types of meats and vegetables along with some spices. On the other hand, keto goulash doesn’t contain any type of vegetable or carbohydrates. All of the ingredients are high-quality meat. You should be prepared to pay a hefty price for them unless you happen to have your own farm where the cows are grazing freely. In that case, you would be able to get fresh meat for free.

Keto goulash is made using 100% beef (or other types of meat such as lamb or pork). The first thing that you should do is to cut the meat into small pieces. This should be done just before you start cooking because frozen meat might become damaged. The second thing that you will have to do is to melt some butter (or other types of fat) in a pan.

Then you should cook the meat until it starts getting brown. You will notice a nice smell which means that your food is ready.

Once the meat is ready, you can add some salt and pepper to improve the taste. In order to add more flavor to your dish, you can also add some spices such as paprika or cayenne pepper. If you like, you could also add some vegetables. However, the purpose of keto goulash is to provide your body with a large amount of fat so you shouldn’t add any carbohydrate rich vegetables.

You can use things such as bell peppers or eggplants.

When adding vegetables, the cooking time should be shorter because these contain less fat. It’s best to stir frequently in order to avoid burning them. On the other hand, if you’re adding cabbages or celery, then you would have to cook them for a longer period of time in order to make them soft enough.

Even though it’s not necessary, some people like adding some spices such as paprika or cayenne pepper in order to improve the taste. As we have already mentioned, the purpose of keto goulash is to provide your body with a large amount of fat and these spices have been chosen in order to improve this purpose.

How Many Calories Does It Have?

This dish contains a very high amount of calories which is why it should only be eaten occasionally or before engaging in physical exercise. One serving of keto goulash contains 1020 calories which is way above the daily caloric requirement of an average person. Even though this is a high amount of calories, most of them come from fat which is exactly what you want.

Keto goulash can be eaten before physical exercise in order to provide your body with the extra energy that it needs. However, it should never be eaten in order to quench your hunger. It’s very easy to over eat whatever it is that you’re cooking and keto goulash is no exception. If you really want to eat this before physical exercise, then you should only eat half of the serving size or just a third.

Otherwise, you might end up not being able to do whatever it is that you’re trying to do.

What is the Name of Each Ingredient in This Dish?

The name of each ingredient in this dish is:

Meat : Any type of meat will do. The more fat it contains, the better. Common examples include beef, lamb and pork, but you can also use chicken.

Butter : Adds a nice flavor to the food. It’s also healthier than other types of oil such as vegetable or sunflower oil.

Common spices : These will add flavor to your food. It’s best to avoid using too much in order to prevent the food from getting bitter. Some common spices that you should consider adding are: oregano, paprika or cayenne pepper.

Cabbage : A good, healthy and cheap vegetable that can be used in many dishes. You should peel its outer layer first before cutting it into pieces. Cabbage will take longer to cook than most other types of vegetables.

Carrots : It’s best to consume the carrots after peeling their outer layer because it contains certain nutrients which may be harmful if consumed in large quantities. Just like cabbage, carrots should also be cut into pieces before cooking.

Peas : If you’re lucky enough to live in a place where fresh peas grow, then you should definitely use them instead of the frozen or canned ones. However, frozen peas tend to work better because they don’t require any preparation (i.e. you don’t have to shell them before cooking)

Celery : Celery can be used both as a side dish and an ingredient for soups. It’s best to chop it up before cooking since its fibers tend to get tough when cooked for a long period of time.

Cream : If you want, you can use half and half instead of heavy whipping cream. Usually, one cup contains around 510 calories and that’s more than half of your daily caloric requirement. In other words, this dish alone is enough to sustain you until your next meal.

Spinach : Spinach is a healthy vegetable which contains many nutrients. It’s best to chop it up before cooking since the fibers tend to get tough when cooked for a long period of time.

Black pepper : Black pepper contains piperine, an alkaloid which increases the bioavailability of many other molecules by preventing enzymes from digesting them. In layman’s terms, this means that black pepper makes the other ingredients in a dish more effective.

Green onions : These are best when they’re used fresh. Try to use the green parts only since the white and yellow parts tend to be too tough when cooked.

Mushrooms : Any type of mushroom will do. Just make sure to trim off the bottom of the stems before cooking. Common types of mushroom used in cooking include: common brown mushrooms, white button mushrooms and portobello mushrooms.

Want to Know How to Make This Dish?

Here’s the ingredients. Looks good so far!

Sorry for the horrible picture quality…

Step 1: Place a large pan over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons of butter in it.

Now add in the chopped onion, garlic, green bell pepper and celery and saute until the vegetables are soft. This should take about 5 minutes.

After this, place the meat in the pan and cook until all sides are browned for about 10 minutes.

Add in the paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper and chili powder. Stir well.

Now add in the tomato puree, carrot, celery, mushroom, tomato, basil and thyme. Cover with a lid and let this simmer for about 1 hour or until the meat is cooked through. If there is too much sauce in the pan, remove the lid and turn the heat up for the last 15 minutes to reduce it.

Once the dish is done, stir in the heavy whipping cream.

Serve with cooked noodles or rice.

This dish goes well with garlic bread or a dinner roll.

This dish can also be served with a side salad and some garlic bread on the side.

It can be served with pasta, potatoes, bread or any type of grain.

It’s really easy to make, especially if you own a slow cooker. I like to put the ingredients in the slow cooker at night and let it cook while I sleep. Then I just have to fry some onions, mushrooms and peppers to top it off in the morning and its ready!
