In the book “No Easy Day” Michael Hastings writes:

“I was eating a lot of bacon, eggs, sausage links, ham and cheese every day.”

That’s right. Michael Hastings ate a lot of bacon, eggs and sausage every single day while serving in Iraq. And it wasn’t just him. A lot of soldiers did the same thing.

A lot of people don’t like the idea of eating bacon or eggs, but they’re actually very healthy foods. They contain protein, vitamins and minerals which are essential for your body to function properly. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t eat them when you have time to spare. However, there are times where you need to cut back on certain things because it will make your life easier in some way (like when you’re working out).

There are many different types of bacon available. Some are cured, others aren’t. You’ll want to choose one that contains less fat than regular bacon, so you won’t end up getting sick from consuming too much of it. Bacon is also known as American Meat. If you don’t eat it regularly, then chances are you may develop an allergy to it due to its high levels of nitrates and nitrites in the meat itself.

Eggs shouldn’t be a problem. They’re packed with plenty of protein, but that doesn’t mean you can eat as many as you want. If you stuff yourself with too much of it, then you’ll feel sick and it’s not going to do your body any good. As for the omelet, feel fee to add in whatever ingredients you want to fill yourself up. It’s very versatile and will definitely come in handy when you’re trying to stay lean.

Sausage is high in calories, so it’s not something you want to snack on all the time. You should only eat it when you have a chance to grill it up or cook it in a pan. If you don’t like sausage, then feel free to choose something else such as bacon or ham. This doesn’t mean you spam on meat all the time though. Be smart about it.

Eating too much of it isn’t good for your overall health anyway.

If you do like meat, then Michael Hastings is your man. He eats a lot of meat and he’s a total bad-a$$. You may have seen the picture of him where he’s wearing a t-shirt that says, “FIGHT TERRORISM — EAT BEEF.” on the front of it. If you eat too much red meat though, you’re going to put on weight and get sick.

You should only eat meat sparingly.

As a navy seal, you’ll probably get sick of eating the same thing all the time. A lot of it will be preserved and canned foods. You won’t have a choice to eat a lot of it while you’re on the road. It’s nutritious enough to keep you going, but it doesn’t taste the best that’s for sure.

You may have to eat food that’s not nutritious at all, but tastes really good. You’ll have to eat at restaurants where you can find it. One of your options is Kentucky Fried Chicken. It’s delicious, but doesn’t provide much in the way of nutrition. Another option is McDonalds.

Now I know what you’re thinking: “I thought this was a book about how to be a navy seal, not a book about being fat and unhealthy.” Just hear me out on this.

There’s a time and place for everything. If you only have one good meal a week, then go for it. Just don’t make a habit out of it, because it definitely won’t be healthy for you in the long run.

As a seal, you’re probably going to be working out on a regular basis, but that doesn’t mean you should punish your body with starvation diets. If you eat too little food, then your body is going to think it’s in danger of not having enough food available and it will shut down all non-essential functions to keep you alive. Your muscles will stop working properly and you won’t be able to fight at your full potential.

You need to eat small meals every four hours or so. This keeps your energy up, but also keeps your metabolism working at an optimum level.

You should really concentrate on eating foods that are high in complex carbohydrates. This food is not only healthy, but will provide you with a lot of energy that you can use on your many missions.

Eat a combination of carbs, protein, and fat at every meal. Don’t just eat carbs though, because then you’ll have a sugar crash and that’s not going to do you any good in a firefight with the bad guys. You’ll get sleepy and unable to concentrate.
