Train to Win in 24 Weeks: Masters Swimming and 5K Running Events

For example, if your goal is to run a 5k, you should start off by walking and then progressively increase your speed until you are able to run continuously for at least five minutes.

Once you’ve gotten to this point, increase the length of time that you are running until you are able to run for a whole five minutes without stopping. After this, try to aim for 10 minute runs. The next step would be to increase the distance that you are running until you can run continuously for at least five minutes. Once you can do this, then it is time to start training for your race.

If you happen to be getting bored or demotivated while training, try listening to music. Music tends to keep people’s spirits up when they are working hard and it has a tendency to help you forget about your surroundings as well, which is always a good thing if you live in a busy city. You can even take things a step further by downloading a podcast on your phone or mp3 player.

Podcasts tend to help people learn while they run which makes the whole activity more fun and interesting. There are a lot of different podcasts out there on a wide range of topics so you’re sure to find something that you’re interested in.

Make sure that you always drink enough water before, during, and after your runs. It is also a good idea to bring some water with you in case you happen to get thirsty during your runs. Running in the heat is no good so make sure that you either run early in the morning or late in the evening.

If you need to, you can always use sun block to prevent yourself from getting a sunburn.

Remember, it is very important that you set realistic goals for yourself. Don’t try to run a 5k after running for only one week. This is just setting yourself up for failure and it will likely cause you to stop running altogether.

Take it slowly and eventually you’ll be able to run 5ks, 10ks, even half marathons or full marathons if you really want to.

Now that you have all the information you need in order to get started, there’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t begin running right away! Remember, the hardest part of any journey is always the first step. Once you’ve taken that, the rest will come easy.
