Kettlebells – these can also be used in place of barbells. They are slightly more expensive than dumbbells but offer much greater freedom of movement.

Your house is filled with things which you can use as free weights. These objects can be used in place of expensive machines and dumbbells to get in shape.
Water Bottles – fill a couple of water bottles with sand and they can be used to replace dumbbells. This is a great way to save some money while still getting in proper shape.
Books – you can always find books in your local library. Although they do not weigh as much as real weights do, they still offer enough resistance for you to get in proper shape.
There are around 50 books of a single pound each. So you can easily collect some library books to use as free weights.
Milk Jugs – you can either buy milk in bulk or simply save the milk container after you have finished drinking the milk. These jugs can be filled with sand and then sealed tight.
These make great water jugs for use around the house so they should not cost you anything at all.
Free Weights Allow You to Keep Up With Your Conditioning Even When You Are Traveling
Even a small amount of free weights can be enough to help keep your strength up. This way you do not have to stop your regular exercise routine just because you are on the road for business or pleasure.
There is no excuse for missing a work out when you are away from home. Even if you are in a hotel room or at a friend’s house, you can easily get in a quick 15 minute exercise routine.
This way you won’t lose any of your hard earned gains from months of hard work in the gym.
Another benefit of owning a few free weights is that they take up very little space. You do not need to find room for a treadmill or stationary bike in your suitcase.
All you need is enough room for you and your weights; and they can be stored just about anywhere when they are not in use.
You can take your free weights with you on vacation or business trips. You can still get in a great workout even if you are staying at a small bed and breakfast inn or a cramped hotel room.
You can fit in a quick 15 minute routine or even just do a few quick exercises when you have the time.
Don’t Leave Home Without Them
If you are the type of person that travels often, then you should consider purchasing your own set of free weights. Even a small set like 5-50 pounds is better than nothing at all.
They take up very little space and can be stored in even the most cramped quarters.
You never know when you are going to have some free time; you may find yourself waiting for your plane or even at the airport. If you have your weights with you, then you can easily get in a quick workout anywhere that you have a little space.
Don’t waste your time while on the road, get in your workout instead. You can easily find a small corner in most hotels to store your weights while you are there.
Even if you don’t have time for a full workout, you can still get in a quick upper body routine while you wait for your ride to the airport.
