Your Supplements Are Killing Your Gains: Vitamin C Water Retention
The problem with taking supplements is that they are not always effective. They may even cause harm if taken in excess. However, there are some supplements that have been proven to be safe and effective at preventing and treating certain diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and many others.
In fact, it is estimated that over 100 million Americans suffer from one or more chronic conditions. If these diseases were prevented and treated, the cost savings would be significant.
However, many of us are unaware of all the health risks associated with consuming foods like red meat and processed meats. These products contain carcinogens like nitrates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which are known to cause cancer in humans. These compounds are present in cured meats and processed meats.
Cancer is the most common type of death among American men between the ages of 35 and 54 years old. Cancer kills approximately 5 million Americans each year. There are several factors that contribute to cancer including lifestyle choices, genetics, environmental exposures and other medical problems.
Vitamin C has been shown to prevent cancer in laboratory animals as well as humans. Studies suggest that people with low levels of vitamin C in their blood are more likely to develop cancer.
Taking the right amount of vitamin C supplements can help prevent and treat cancer and other diseases. The recommended daily value for vitamin C is 90 milligrams for men and 75 milligrams for women. People who have a diet with fruits and vegetables do not need to worry about consuming too much vitamin C. However, if you do not eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, you may want to take a multivitamin with at least 75 to 90 milligrams of vitamin C daily.
You can also find vitamin C in other popular supplements. These include popular OTC cold and flu medicines such as Airborne, Emergen-C, Vitamin C, Zicam and Cold FX.
